Activity for ClickUp

ClickUp threaded comment notification: which reply is new?

Threaded comments are useful until a notification sends you back into a conversation you have already read. You know there is a new reply somewhere in the task. What you may not know immediately is which thread changed and which reply is new.

That is one of the clearest notification complaints ClickUp users make publicly.

The threaded-comment problem

A task can contain a top-level comment, several replies, other comment threads and unrelated activity beneath it. A notification may tell you there was a reply, but after the task opens you still have to orient yourself:

  • Which thread caused the notification?
  • Which person replied?
  • Which part have I already read?
  • Where does the new reply begin?

An r/clickup user described spending 20+ seconds answering those questions after clicking some notifications and said the confusion can be enough to miss the newest comment entirely.

Why rereading is the real cost

The cost is not only scrolling.

Every time you reopen an old thread, you have to load its context back into your head. If you process dozens of notifications a day, those small context switches accumulate.

Activity for ClickUp is designed to remove the orientation step.

Open the reply, not just the task

Activity keeps your ClickUp notifications in Chrome's side panel. When a notification maps to a specific threaded reply, clicking it opens the task at that reply and highlights it.

You still have the surrounding conversation when you need context. You just do not have to find the new message first.

A ClickUp task opened to the exact comment selected in the Activity side panel.

What if ClickUp did not send the notification?

Activity only works with the Inbox and Chat information ClickUp already makes available in your browser. It does not generate missing notifications or change ClickUp's delivery rules.
